The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy over an alleged armed robbery at a hotel in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Udochukwu Nwankwo, was picked up in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026, by operatives of the B Division, Amansea, during a routine patrol.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives also recovered a shiny metallic lighter designed to look like a pistol. The suspect allegedly used it to threaten a hotel guest and steal her valuables.

Ikenga said in a statement on Wednesday that preliminary findings showed Nwankwo and two other accomplices, who are still at large, attacked a guest at the hotel and snatched her mobile phone and other personal items.

“During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to using the recovered object to threaten victims during the robbery,” the police spokesperson said.

Ikenga added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and recover the stolen phone and other belongings.

He said the command has intensified investigation to ensure all those involved are brought to justice.
