The newly posted Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Bassey S. Ewah, has assumed duty as the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo.
Ewah officially assumed office on Monday, September 14, 2026, taking charge of the zone comprising Osun and Oyo states.
The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ojedele Olanrewaju Tunji, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
According to the statement, the new AIG brings extensive operational, administrative and leadership experience to the zone, having served in several strategic positions throughout his career in the Nigeria Police Force.
Born on July 28, 1968, Ewah hails from Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in May 1992.
His previous appointments include Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 15, Maiduguri; Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command; Deputy Commandant, Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State; and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, Federal Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, Lagos State Police Command and second-in-command of the command, as well as Area Commander, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The statement signed by SP Ojedele also highlighted Ewah’s previous operational roles in Enugu State, where he served as a Divisional Police Officer in several divisions, including Uwani Trans-Ekulu, Abakpa, New Haven, Garki, Akunanaw Gari and 9th Mile.
He had also served as second-in-command of the Department of Operations, Enugu State Command, on three occasions, Officer-in-Charge of the State Intelligence Bureau, Patrol Commander and second-in-command of MOPOL 3, Enugu.
Ewah has undergone several professional, operational, leadership and command courses in Nigeria and abroad, including the Advanced Detective Course, Tactical Leadership Course and Strategic Leadership Course.
He also participated in Operation Haske Biu at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, and attended United Nations and African Union courses on Human Resource Management in Ethiopia, as well as other professional courses in Kenya and Rwanda.
Describing the new AIG’s wealth of experience, Ojedele said, “With his wealth of operational experience, leadership exposure, professional training and extensive command responsibilities, AIG B.S. Ewah brings to Zone 11 a wealth of experience, discipline, professionalism and strategic leadership.”
The PPRO assured residents of Osun and Oyo states that the police would sustain efforts to protect lives and property and maintain law and order across the zone.
He said, “The general public is assured of the Command’s continued commitment to the protection of lives and property, maintenance of law and order, and effective collaboration with all stakeholders towards a safer society.”
Ojedele urged members of the public and other stakeholders to continue supporting the police in their efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment across the two states.
