The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has said none of the aspirants lining up to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 can hold a candle to him in terms of quality and competence.
The Zamfara West lawmaker made the claim on Wednesday while addressing members of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Gusau, where he was drumming up support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Yari, who was named to head the APC Presidential Campaign Council on August 22, told the transport workers the campaign wouldn’t stop at winning votes, it would also mean engaging Nigerians directly on where the country is headed.
Speaking in Hausa, he didn’t hold back when comparing Tinubu to the field of contenders.
“That is how politics is. When you put all the aspirants contesting against Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a scale, I don’t think the scale would even accept them,” Yari said.
“We all know that none of the aspirants contesting against him are on his level when it comes to merit and quality; we don’t think any of them have even 10 percent of what Bola Tinubu possesses.”
Still, Yari was careful to acknowledge that other candidates have every right to run and campaign, he simply insisted the APC would do the work needed to keep Tinubu in office.
“But it is right to contest and campaign. By God’s grace, we will work hard, and we will pray for God to give us victory, and we truly feel that God will grant it to us,” he said.
He rounded off his remarks by urging APC supporters to keep both Tinubu and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal in their prayers ahead of their respective elections.
“May God permit them to complete the good work they have started for the people,” he said.
Tinubu is expected to seek a second term in 2027. Among those being tipped as his strongest challengers are former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
