Nollywood actress Adebimpe Oyebade-Adedimeji popularly known as Mo Bimpe has challenged social media users who questioned her relationship with fellow actor Jide Awobona, saying their reaction reflects the kind of relationships they are accustomed to.
The actress came under scrutiny after a one-minute video showing her having a conversation with Awobona was shared online, with some users reading different meanings into the interaction.
However, Bimpe dismissed the concerns, describing the exchange as a normal conversation between friends and insisting that not every relationship or marriage is defined by suspicion and insecurity.
“The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine,” she wrote.
The actress said she believes healthy marriages can be built on trust, friendship, respect and confidence, rather than fear, constant monitoring or insecurity.
According to her, the fact that some people find ordinary interactions between married people and friends suspicious does not mean such relationships are unhealthy.
“Not every marriage is toxic,” Bimpe stressed, adding that some couples enjoy relationships founded on mutual trust and understanding.
She also defended her husband, saying he is confident in their marriage and has no reason to feel threatened by her interaction with Awobona, whom she described as a family friend.
“My husband is a secure man. A brief conversation with a family friend does not threaten our marriage or require anyone’s concern,” she said.
Bimpe further maintained that healthy marriages still exist, suggesting that people who are accustomed to toxic or insecure relationships may find such marriages difficult to understand.
Her comments have since generated further reactions online, with the actress standing by her view that trust and confidence should form the foundation of a healthy marriage.
