The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has described the state government’s involvement in the affairs of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) as “meddlesome interloping.”
The party made the statement while reacting to allegations by the Accord Party that the APC was working with NURTW national president, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, to promote a violent takeover of motor parks in the state.
In a statement signed by Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party said the 1999 constitution of Nigeria has amended that any attempt by the state government to interfere in the affairs of the NURTW amounts to meddlesome interloping.
“How many times do we need to spoon-feed the Accord handlers and the state government with the sufficient and elaborate position of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended that any plan of the state government to dabble into the running of the NURTW amount to meddlesome interloping.” It said
The party also said it had no business running the affairs of the NURTW.
“We, as a political party, have no business in the running of the NURTW in the state as such is not captured in any of the provisions of the Constitution of our party.”, it said.
The APC went further to alledge the accord party of interfering in the NURTW affairs and said it that if there is an plan to disrupt the peace of the state, the state government should be held responsible
“If there is a ploy from any quarters to rock the boat of peace of the state, the state government and the ruling Accord handlers who are illegally dabbling into the affairs of the state chapter of the NURTW and subsequently spreading falsehoods should be held responsible for it.” It said
It also said the state government should focus on governing rather than misinforming the people.
It said “We thought that after the last governorship election, the incumbent state government would deem it necessary to face governance squarely instead of chasing shadows and making it an habit to misinform the innocent members of the public.”
Osun APC argued that the state government’s alleged involvement in the union’s affairs amounted to interference, insisting that the control, establishment and regulation of motor parks fall under local government councils.
The party urged the public and the police to disregard the Accord’s allegation of a planned violent takeover, describing it as “frivolous, reckless, diversionary and without any proof.”
However, they Osun APC said MC Oluomo had already inaugurated a six-month caretaker committee led by Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, to oversee the affairs of the union in Osun.
