A yet-to-be-identified woman has been crushed to death by a truck after she reportedly fell from a motorcycle on the Agbara-Lusada Expressway in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The fatal crash occurred around 7pm on Saturday at Cashier Bus Stop along the highway.
An eyewitness, Kunle, on Sunday said that the accident happened when the motorcycle carrying the woman attempted to overtake the truck.
He said the woman fell from the motorcycle during the manoeuvre and was run over by the truck.
He said, “The accident involved a woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle. The motorcycle tried to overtake the truck, and in the process, the passenger, who was a woman, fell and was crushed by the truck.”
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Sunday.
Akinbiyi said the crash involved a white Howo truck with registration number T-34611LA and two motorcycles whose registration numbers were not displayed.
According to him, eyewitnesses reported that one of the motorcycle riders allegedly attempted to overtake improperly, causing the female passenger to fall under the truck.
Akinbiyi said, “The RTA/RTC was caused by wrong overtaking on the part of the Okada rider, which led one of the Okada passengers to fall under the truck, which claimed her life.”
He said five people, comprising three males and two females, were involved in the crash, adding that two victims, a male and a female, sustained injuries.
Akinbiyi said the injured victims were taken to a hospital by a good Samaritan before TRACE operatives arrived at the scene.
He added that the deceased’s remains had been taken away by her family, while the truck was moved to police custody for further investigation.
According to him, TRACE operatives and PAPA OSCAR responders attended to the scene and restored normal traffic flow along the expressway.
Meanwhile, it was reported on Wednesday that four people were killed in a separate crash around Straight Gate School, Ipara Remo, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The crash involved a blue Mitsubishi Canter with registration number FGE 753 XA and an ash-coloured Howo truck with registration number T-695 KT
