Nigerian students in tertiary institutions have an opportunity to receive 10 additional shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE at no cost under a grant initiative introduced by the Aliko Dangote Foundation.

The initiative, announced in October 2026, is aimed at promoting financial inclusion, encouraging a savings culture and introducing young Nigerians to the capital market by giving them an opportunity to participate in the refinery’s ongoing initial public offering (IPO).

However, the offer is not entirely free from the outset. Eligible students must first purchase a minimum of 10 shares with their own money before they can qualify for the foundation-funded grant of an additional 10 shares.

At the offer price of ₦525 per share, students are required to pay at least ₦5,250 for their initial subscription. The foundation may then fund a separate application for another 10 shares on behalf of qualified applicants, subject to its terms and conditions.

The initiative comes amid growing efforts to expand investment opportunities and improve financial literacy among young Nigerians, many of whom have limited exposure to the stock market and other investment opportunities.

By encouraging students to become shareholders, the foundation is seeking to introduce them to the principles of investment, ownership and long-term financial planning.

Who is eligible for the free shares?

According to the programme’s terms and conditions, applicants must meet specific requirements before they can benefit from the grant.

Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in a recognised public or private tertiary institution in Nigeria, including a university, polytechnic or college of education.

The initiative is restricted to undergraduate students and does not cover those enrolled in postgraduate programmes.

Applicants must also provide the information required to verify their student status, possess a valid Bank Verification Number (BVN) and complete the applicable identity verification and Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures.

In addition, students must apply for and pay for at least 10 shares through the designated student subscription channel.

Applications must be made in the students’ own names and for their personal benefit. Each eligible student can be considered for the grant only once.

How to apply for the additional 10 shares

Students interested in the initiative are required to complete the following steps:

1. Visit the official portal

Applicants should visit the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s Student Share Grant Initiative portal at https://ipo.alikodangotefoundation.org/students.

2. Provide student and personal information

Students will be required to submit details including their institution’s name, matriculation number, BVN, email address and telephone number for verification.

Applicants should ensure that all information supplied is accurate and consistent with their academic and identity records.

3. Complete the verification process

After submitting the required information, applicants should follow the instructions on the official platform to verify their student status and proceed through the designated subscription channel.

4. Subscribe for a minimum of 10 shares

Eligible students must complete the applicable identity verification and KYC requirements, review the relevant IPO documents and apply for at least 10 shares in their own names.

At ₦525 per share, the minimum subscription is ₦5,250, which must be paid by the student.

5. Qualify for the foundation-funded grant

Following the necessary eligibility checks, the foundation may fund and submit a separate application for an additional 10 shares on behalf of a qualified student.

Although students will not be required to pay for the additional application, receiving the grant is subject to the foundation’s terms and discretion.

When is the application deadline?

The initiative’s official account on X announced October 27, 2026, as the closing date for the student share grant programme.

Interested students are therefore encouraged to visit the official portal to confirm that applications remain open and check for any updates before beginning the process.

What students should know before applying

While the initiative offers an opportunity to enter the investment market with additional financial support, students should understand that applying does not automatically guarantee the allocation of shares.

Neither the student’s initial subscription nor the foundation-funded application is guaranteed to result in an allotment. The final number of shares allocated will depend on the applicable IPO procedures.

Students should also be aware that the foundation does not guarantee profits or an increase in the value of their investment. Like other investments, shares may rise or fall in value, and investors may lose money.

The grant applies specifically to the IPO of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE and cannot be used to purchase shares in other Dangote Group companies or unrelated businesses.

Applicants are advised to use only the official foundation portal and designated subscription channel, carefully read the applicable terms and conditions, and avoid individuals who demand money or personal information in exchange for guaranteed access to the grant.

With the October 27 deadline approaching, eligible students who wish to participate should verify the current application status and ensure they understand the financial obligations and investment risks before subscribing.
