LNollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has reflected on her first experience in the boxing ring after losing to reality TV star Phyna in a high-profile celebrity boxing bout organised by Balmoral Promotions.
The actress was knocked out by Phyna in the fourth round of the contest, which marked the first female celebrity boxing event staged by Balmoral Group and brought two popular entertainers into the ring in an unusual clash between Nollywood and reality television.
Despite the defeat, Nkechi described her participation as a courageous achievement, revealing that she had only trained for two days before stepping into the ring.
“Still a CHAMPION regardless of the result… even the blind knows who the winner is,” the actress wrote in an Instagram post on Friday.
“Now let’s go back to making movies cus I no be boxer.”
While appearing to draw a line under her brief boxing adventure, Nkechi admitted that she would still consider another fight in the future.
“Will I do this again? OH YES,” she wrote in a separate post, reflecting on the experience of entering a boxing ring for the first time.
The actress said she had never raised her hands to fight anyone before the bout, but found the courage to step onto an unfamiliar stage and “fought like a warrior.”
Beyond the competition itself, Nkechi said the moment carried a deeply personal meaning as she dedicated her participation to her late mother, Gloria Obasi Sunday.
According to the actress, she wanted her mother to feel present during the event and specifically requested that her favourite song be played before she entered the ring.
“Mummy were you watching? Did you also hear when they played your favorite song? I wanted you around that was why I asked for that song,” she wrote.
Nkechi also expressed appreciation to Balmoral Promotions and Bet9ja for giving her the opportunity to participate, describing the experience as one she would not forget.
The celebrity boxing bout has attracted attention beyond the result, as the event provided a platform for entertainers to test themselves in a sport far removed from their usual careers while creating a new form of entertainment for Nigerian audiences.
For Phyna, the victory ended with more than bragging rights, as she received ₦50 million and an electric vehicle as part of her rewards and subsequently called out fellow entertainer Etinosa for another potential celebrity boxing contest.
