The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Oriade Chapter, and the Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progress and Development Initiative (NWAPDI) have endorsed Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi, the Accord Party candidate for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency seat, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced at a joint stakeholders’ meeting in Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State, where leaders of both organisations expressed confidence in Olajengbesi’s candidacy, citing his proposed plans for agricultural development, food security and the empowerment of rural communities.

High Chief Ojo Sunday Fasosin, Governor of AFAN in Oriade and the Saba of Egboroland, described Olajengbesi as a credible and people-oriented leader whose agenda, he said, aligned with the needs and aspirations of farmers and rural women.

Fasosin said the endorsement followed the candidate’s commitment to agricultural transformation, improved access to credit for smallholder farmers and greater opportunities for women in agribusiness across Obokun and Oriade.

He added that AFAN members were prepared to support Olajengbesi, noting that farmers needed effective representation to address challenges such as inadequate mechanisation, limited access to markets and the high cost of agricultural production.

Similarly, the leaders of NWAPDI in Obokun and Oriade, Mrs Olasupo Jumoke and Mrs Deborah Ojo, respectively, described Olajengbesi’s candidacy as an opportunity to advance food security and strengthen agricultural activities in the constituency.

A farmer and resident of Ijebu-Jesa, Fatinikun Michael, also expressed support for the candidate, describing him as an intelligent leader capable of promoting modern agricultural practices.

Michael said he was willing to work with Olajengbesi’s campaign team on policies that would improve farming methods and increase agricultural productivity.

Responding, Olajengbesi thanked the leaders and members of both organisations for their endorsement, promising to make agriculture a central pillar of his legislative agenda if elected.

He described farmers as vital to the economy of Obokun/Oriade and pledged to pursue legislative measures and interventions to improve access to farm inputs, agricultural extension services, storage facilities and special grants for women and young farmers.

Olajengbesi also called for concerted efforts to tackle poverty and encourage more young people to embrace agriculture as a viable source of employment and wealth creation.

“We must declare a state of emergency on poverty and partner with farmers for innovative ideas that will make agriculture more attractive for youths and more productive for society,” he said.

The Accord candidate added that he would consult regularly with AFAN and NWAPDI to develop practical approaches to improving agricultural output and supporting farmers across the constituency.

“Our constituency is agrarian. We will listen to AFAN and our mothers in NWAPDI for better productivity. I thank you for endorsing me. I will not disappoint you,” he said.

The endorsement adds to Olajengbesi’s campaign activities as he seeks to represent the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, with agriculture and rural economic development featuring prominently in his engagements with community stakeholders.
