The Accord Party candidate for Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Barr. Pelumi Olajengbesi, has cautioned residents of Ijesa North against accepting ₦20,000 from politicians to swear oaths at shrines for political purposes.

In a press release signed by Sodiq Lawal Chocomilo, spokesperson for the Pelumi Olajengbesi Campaign Organisation (POCO). Olajengbesi gave the warning on Sunday while addressing supporters in Ipetu-Ijesa. He also announced a donation of ₦20 million to support community development in the town.

The legal practitioner urged residents not to compromise their convictions or allow themselves to be drawn into shrine oath-taking for financial inducements, stressing that leadership should be built on trust, integrity and genuine service to the people.

He described himself as part of the community and reaffirmed his commitment to improving residents’ welfare and supporting initiatives aimed at promoting development across the constituency.

According to him, his contributions to community development predated his decision to seek elective office, noting that his interest in the area’s progress was not driven solely by political ambition.

The Accord Party candidate also commended residents of Ipetu-Ijesa and other communities across Ijesa North for supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration and the Accord Party during the last governorship election.

He alleged that opposition pressure and intimidation had not deterred the party’s supporters, while appreciating party leaders, mobilisers and other stakeholders for their support in securing his emergence as the party’s candidate.

The ₦20 million donation is expected to support community development efforts in Ipetu-Ijesa. However, the statement did not specify the projects to be funded or the arrangements for disbursing the money.
