No fewer than thirty-eight indigent students of Ilobu on Saturday, February 15th, 2020 received scholarships to further their education in tertiary institutions.

The scholarship which was in two different categories, was coordinated by the National Secretary of Ilobu-Asake Development Union, Mr Dare Alabi.

The first category is the annual scholarship for the purchase of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination forms for qualified candidates, while the second phase is the scholarship awards for three newly admitted students into university sponsored by an illustrious son of the soil, Architect Tunde Ojo, the Secretary, Procurement, Estate and Works at the National Assembly, Abuja.

Speaking at the event, Ojo, who was represented by one of his assistants, Dr Shina Alabi, said he intends to give back to the community in fulfillment o his vow during the Ilobu National Students Union Heroes’ Week held in October, 2019.

He added that the need to give back to the community by helping the younger generation achieve their dreams is a responsibility of everyone, promising to ensure the scholarship runs annually.

According to him, “I’m also motivated by the need to revive reading culture among our youths. It’s my belief that scholarship like this will help motivate, encourage and spur students to do more. Healthy competition will continue to be key toward wining this scholarship on yearly basis.”

Earlier in his address, the coordinator of the programme, Dare Alabi said the UTME scholarship which started in the year 2017 has been sustained, adding that over 100 students have benefited from the programme and majority of them are doing well in the various universities.

Alabi added that this year’s edition will see 35 students receive a sum of 5,000 naira each for the registration of the examination. He said the mode of selection was based on their performances in the SSCE and presentations during screening.

The three students who won Arc. Ojo’s scholarship are; Adeleke Ayuba, a law student of University of Lagos; Alayande Lukman, studying English language in the University of Lagos; and Yusuf Abibat, student of Criminology and Security Studies at the University of Ilorin.

Appreciating the sponsor, one of the parents of the beneficiaries, Alh Isiaq Yusuf showered praises on Arc. Ojo for the kind gesture, adding that the kindness will forever be remembered and appreciated by not only the beneficiaries but also their parents.

The atmosphere became electrified when the Patron of INSU, Alh. Dr Lekan Yusuf and Prof. Femi Shuaib of University of Lagos doled out sum of 50,000 naira each to the twenty well dressed students among the beneficiaries of the UTME scholarship. The duo said the intention is to ensure that the students are not only academically brilliant but they are also morally upright.

Dr Yusuf also gave a sum of 30,000 to the winners of Arc. Ojo’s scholarship.

In marking the 57th birthday of Arc. Tunde Ojo, members of INSU cut cake during the event to join the celebration held on Saturday, February 14th.

Dr Lekan Yusuff, Prof. Femi Shuaib, Pastor Alonge Ajuwon, Members of Luminaries Club led by the President, Mr Saheed Adekunle, the immediate past President of INSU, Alayande Ridwan, Executive cabinet members of INSU led by the president, Tiamiyu Kamaldeen, Nat’l President of National Association of Osun State Students, Teslim Salahudeen, Publisher of Insight Multi-Links Media, Mr Jare Tiamiyu, Kamarudeen Alabi, Biodun Ologunde, Abdullahi Abass, among many others.
