The English Football Association on Tuesday has confirmed that Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card has been overturned following Arsenal’s claim of wrongful dismissal. The defender is back available for the Gunners after his three-match suspension was lifted.
The gunners won their appeal against a red card given to Myles Lewis-Skelly in Saturday Arsenal’s 0-1 win over Wolves.
The Football Association on Tuesday says “An independent Regulatory Commission has upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Myles Lewis-Skelly and removed his three-match suspension,”
The 18-year-old young defender was shown a straight red card in the 43rd minute of the fixture as referee Micheal Oliver deemed his challenge on Matt Doherty as a ‘serious foul play’. Oliver’s decision was not overruled following VAR intervention Darren England.
The incident caused controversies as manager Mikel Arteta expressed his frustration post-match. “I am absolutely fuming but I leave it with you,” the Spaniard said. “I think it is that obvious that we don’t need any comment today and hopefully the right thing will happen.”
As a result of the verdict, Lewis-Skelly’s three-match suspension has been lifted and he will therefore be available to Mikel Arteta immediately.
The Gunners take on Girona in their final match of the Champions League group stages before they return to Premier League action to take on Manchester City.
