After months of speculation, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has officially announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nwoko attributed his decision to the persistent internal divisions and factionalism within the PDP, which he believes had become irreconcilable.
In a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State, Nwoko expressed his reasons for leaving the party. The letter stated:
“I hereby formally resign from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a party I have been a part of since its inception in 1999.
“My resignation is driven by the deepening divisions and factionalism within the party, making it increasingly difficult to unite and serve the collective interests of our people. This was further highlighted recently on January 29th, when top party officials resorted to physical confrontations due to these irreconcilable factions.
“I am also thankful for the opportunity the PDP gave me to contest the 2022/2023 senatorial election, which allowed me to directly connect with the people of my constituency and share my vision for their future.
“During my campaign, I made solemn promises to my people—commitments I take seriously. Unfortunately, the current party structure in our state has not been conducive to fulfilling these promises. After careful thought, I have concluded that stepping away from the PDP is necessary to better honor my obligations to my constituents.
“While I part ways with the PDP, I remain fully committed to statesmanship, unity, and advancing the interests of Delta North.
“My decision is made in the best interest of those I serve, and I remain dedicated to the progress and prosperity of our state and country.”
