The Northern Minority Alliance for Balanced Leadership, a socio-political group, has condemned former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for his criticism of President Bola Tinubu.
El-Rufai claimed on Tuesday that the relationship between President Tinubu and the North had soured, warning that the President could face a political fate similar to that of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 elections.
Responding to the comments on Thursday, Musa Makama, the acting National Coordinator of the group, dismissed El-Rufai’s remarks, asserting that the former governor should not be taken seriously.
Makama accused El-Rufai of being a politician who had reaped the rewards of the system, but now that he had lost political influence, he was retaliating.
“Based on his track record, El-Rufai has gained everything from politics. He benefited greatly from being in power, and now that he has been sidelined, he is fighting back,” Makama said.
The group also pointed out that El-Rufai had shown similar behavior in his interactions with former Presidents Umaru Yar’Adua, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Goodluck Jonathan.
“Everyone knows his history. We witnessed how he treated Yar’Adua, who was his boss. He did the same with Obasanjo and Jonathan. So it’s no surprise that he is acting out now that he’s been sidelined,” Makama added.
The group expressed appreciation for the inclusion of Kaduna State in key government appointments, noting that the state had produced a minister, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Chief of Defence Staff.
“As a minority, we have no reason to be ungrateful to the President. We appreciate what he has done for our people. El-Rufai is on his own and should not be taken seriously,” Makama concluded.
