The Nigerian government has resolved the passport printer issue at its consulates in New York and Atlanta, USA.

Acting on directives from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, issued in January 2025, the Nigeria Immigration Service successfully delivered and installed new passport printers at both consulates on Tuesday.

This decision follows increasing concerns raised by Nigerians in the diaspora regarding delays in passport applications, caused by outdated printing equipment.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by Babatunde Alao, the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Interior, Tunji-Ojo emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing service delivery and innovation. “The installation of these new printers reflects our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians both at home and abroad,” he stated.

The new printers are expected to ease passport processing by accelerating the application procedure. The installation is part of the Ministry’s broader reforms, which include the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre and expanding contactless solutions in more regions.

Tunji-Ojo also highlighted that these reforms align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which seeks to improve the lives of Nigerians.
