The Federal Government has announced plans to discontinue its Visa-on-Arrival policy, stating that it has not been effective.

As a replacement, the government will introduce landing and exit cards, which visitors will be required to complete prior to arriving in the country.

The Visa-on-Arrival policy, which was introduced in 2020, allowed travelers to obtain a short-stay visa upon arrival at Nigerian ports of entry. In 2023, Dr. Tunji-Ojo indicated that the policy would shift to a reciprocity-based system.

The Visa-on-Arrival was primarily issued to high-net-worth individuals and frequent travelers who faced difficulties obtaining visas due to the lack of Nigerian embassies or consulates in their home countries.
