Operatives of the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have arrested two suspected criminals for impersonation and parading themselves as civil defence staff.

 

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in statement he released on Monday.

 

He said the suspects, Muhammad Sarari, 43, resident of Goron Dutse, Dala Local government and Madaki Zaharaddeen, 32, of Hotoro quarters, Nassarawa local government were apprehended in Kano.

 

“The suspects were impersonating by parading themselves as civil defence staff. They used to storm some ministries and agencies of government in Kano intimidating top government officials and extort money from them,” Abdullahi said.

 

He, however said that luck ran out of them when they walked into the premises of a renowned television station in the state, intimidated and threatened a top management staff of the media house in exchange for cash.

 

“They were, thereafter caught by personnel of the Corps, Tarauni Divisional Office and brought to the state headquarters for interrogation.

 

“Upon investigation the duo confessed to the crime and one of the suspects was found in possession with fake identity card of the NSCDC and an inner wear bearing the service logo of the Corps,” he said.

 

He said investigation has been concluded and the suspects would be charged with impersonation of a public servant, conspiracy, intimidation and extortion.
