The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has denied accusations from former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who claimed that Ribadu is attempting to tarnish his reputation due to his 2031 presidential aspirations.

In an interview with Arise TV on Monday, El-Rufai alleged that Ribadu is working with Kaduna Governor Uba Sani and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to damage his image. El-Rufai asserted that Ribadu is the mastermind behind the alleged plot, though he noted it has been unsuccessful so far.

In a statement released on his official X handle late Monday, Ribadu rejected these claims, emphasizing that he is not collaborating with anyone to disparage El-Rufai.

He also denied having any discussions about running for president in 2031, stating that his full attention is devoted to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration and advancing Nigeria.

Ribadu urged the public to disregard El-Rufai’s remarks, saying, “My attention has been drawn to the interview given by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. I would have ignored him if my silence wouldn’t be misconstrued as consent. I am too busy with my current responsibilities to engage in a media battle with him or anyone else.”

He added, “Despite the persistent provocations and attacks, I have never spoken negatively about Nasir. This is out of respect for our past association and our families. I won’t start now. However, I urge the public to ignore El-Rufai’s statements.”

Ribadu also clarified, “For the record, I have never discussed a 2031 presidential bid with anyone. All my efforts are focused on the success of President Tinubu’s administration and the advancement of our nation.”

Finally, Ribadu requested that El-Rufai allow him to focus on his national duties, just as he does not concern himself with El-Rufai’s matters.
