The ongoing verbal sparring between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio took a new turn on Saturday as Natasha’s husband, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, called on Akpabio to treat his wife with the respect and dignity she deserves.
Uduaghan, the Alema of Warri Kingdom, released a statement in Warri, Delta State, where he expressed that while he had initially chosen not to comment on the conflict, recent events had prompted him to speak out.
“I would never trade her for anything, as she is the greatest joy of my life,” Uduaghan remarked.
He expressed concern over the growing distractions caused by the dispute, noting that it diverted attention from more pressing issues.
“Without prejudice to the ongoing legal proceedings, my wife was duly elected by her people because of the immense respect and trust they have in her,” he said.
“She is committed to delivering effective representation for her district and the nation.”
Uduaghan praised Natasha as a devoted wife and an honest person, even under adversity. He also revealed that Natasha had confided in him about her interactions with Akpabio, whom he considered a family friend.
“I approached the matter with maturity and responsibility,” Uduaghan added. “As a traditional leader who values family and respects authority, I sought to promote peace and harmony.”
He mentioned that he personally met with Akpabio and urged him to treat his wife with the respect she deserves, while also honoring their friendship. Both parties had initially agreed to resolve the matter amicably, but despite that, Natasha continued to express concerns about harassment from the Senate President.
Uduaghan reaffirmed his unwavering support for his wife, encouraging the Senate and Akpabio to treat Natasha with respect as the legal process unfolds.
