Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has expressed concern over the diminishing level of professionalism in the Nigerian film industry. Appearing as a guest on Rubbin’ Minds, Wright voiced her dissatisfaction with the lack of discipline and commitment she has observed since her return to acting.

“I don’t feel professionalism in Nollywood the way we used to,” she shared. “Sometimes, call time is set for 8:00 AM, yet people show up at 10 or 11. You begin to wonder, ‘What’s going on?’ Maybe they are superstars, but that wasn’t how we were trained.”

Wright, who had taken a break from acting to focus on raising her children, reminisced about the standards that once defined Nollywood. “I remember when we had strict discipline on set. But now, having worked on a few movie sets since coming back, I find myself waiting for hours for the ‘stars’ to show up.”

Reflecting on her time away from the industry, Wright highlighted the importance of being present for her children.

“There comes a time in a woman’s life and in a child’s life when they need you more than ever. My children were abroad, and I had to leave everything behind to care for them. I always advise parents, especially those with kids overseas, not to leave them in someone else’s care at critical ages. That’s when they start saying, ‘You’re not my mom; you can’t talk to me like that. You’re not my dad.'”
