The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced that it will provide free tickets for the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe. The match will take place on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
In a statement issued on Monday, Paul Bassey, the state’s Commissioner for Sports, revealed that Governor Umo Eno had purchased all 30,000 tickets to rally support for the national team. Bassey emphasized the Governor’s commitment to ensuring the Super Eagles receive strong backing as they face Zimbabwe.
“The Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has bought 30,000 tickets to support the Super Eagles ahead of the crucial World Cup qualification match,” Bassey said.
The free tickets will be distributed through various centers, including local radio stations, De Venus Bar and Restaurant on Stadium Road, Uyo Township Stadium, Ibom Plaza, and other locations where tickets were previously sold.
No tickets will be distributed or sold at the stadium, so fans are encouraged to secure theirs in advance. Ticket holders will only be allowed entry into the stadium, and strict seating arrangements and security measures will be in place.
Additionally, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced that the first 500 fans to obtain tickets for the match will receive Super Eagles jerseys. Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the NFF General Secretary, urged Nigerians to show up in large numbers, wear national colors, and create an energetic atmosphere to support the team.
“We need Nigerians to turn out in droves to cheer the Super Eagles. The Rwandans packed their stadium, and we want to see the same support in Uyo,” Sanusi said.
Currently, the Super Eagles have six points from five matches and sit fourth in their group in the World Cup qualifiers. They secured their only win of the campaign against Rwanda on Friday.
This match promises to be a critical fixture for the Super Eagles as they continue their push for qualification.
