Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has ordered an immediate probe into claims that officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) extorted N5.2 million from a group of travelers.
The investigation follows a viral social media post alleging that NSCDC personnel unlawfully collected the money from young men journeying from Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State to Akure, Ondo State.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his media aide, Babatunde Alao, the Minister strongly condemned the alleged misconduct, emphasizing the federal government’s commitment to upholding discipline and professionalism in its paramilitary agencies.
“We will not tolerate any form of misconduct from our security personnel. Our mission is to build a paramilitary force that is disciplined, honorable, and patriotic,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
He assured the public that any officer found guilty would be held accountable and face strict disciplinary measures, reiterating the administration’s firm stance against corruption and abuse of authority.
