Harry Kane scored his 25th Bundesliga goal of the season as Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0, marking his first-ever career title and a memorable farewell for club legend Thomas Müller.
Although Bayern officially secured the Bundesliga title on Sunday following Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw at Freiburg, they celebrated the triumph in front of home fans with a solid win and the presentation of the league trophy at full-time.
Kane opened the scoring in the 31st minute, heading in a deflected shot from Michael Olise to break the deadlock. Despite a lackluster performance by Bayern, Gladbach failed to capitalize on several scoring opportunities. Olise later sealed the victory with a close-range finish in the final minute.
The match was particularly emotional for Thomas Müller, who played his final home game for Bayern. Making his 750th appearance for the club, the 35-year-old came close to scoring in the 57th minute but was denied by the goalkeeper. He was substituted with seven minutes remaining to a standing ovation, receiving embraces from teammates and a guard of honour from the coaching staff and substitutes.
Müller, who will depart this summer after 25 years at Bayern, leaves behind a legacy of 13 Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies. Speaking to Sky Germany, he said, “I can’t really process it all right now,” adding he was moved by “75,000 hearts beating a little for me.”
Meanwhile, England international Eric Dier, who is set to join Monaco at the end of the season, was also given a warm send-off before kick-off.
