The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has officially granted both accreditation and approval for the commencement of several academic programmes at The Polytechnic, Iresi, following a series of inspection and accreditation visitations conducted by the Board between March 17 and 19, 2025.
In separate communications signed by Dr. Mrs. Fatima Kabir Umar, Director of the Polytechnic Programmes Department, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, the Board confirmed the outcome of the visitations and the decisions made.
The NBTE granted full accreditation for the following programmes, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session, for a duration of five (5) years.
” ND Business Administration and Management 1 stream of 80 students, ND Accountancy 1 stream of 80 students, ND Mass Communication 1 stream of 80 students , HND Accountancy 1 stream of 80 students, HND Computer Science to be replaced with HND Software & Web Development (1 stream of 60 students) .
NBTE emphasized that enrolment must not exceed the approved number of streams, and the accredited programmes will be due for re-accreditation by September 2030. The institution is responsible for inviting the Board for re-accreditation when due. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from further admissions into the affected programmes.
Additionally, the latest correspondence, with reference TEB/PRO/PP.22/VOL.II/206, supersedes the earlier letter TEB/PRO/PP.22/VOL.II/204, also dated April 8, 2025.
The NBTE also granted approval to commence two new programmes HND Software and Web Development 1 stream of 60 students, HND Networking and Cloud Computing 1 stream of 60 students.
The Polytechnic, Iresi is expected to begin admissions into these programmes starting from the 2025/2026 session* Should the institution fail to commence admissions within this period, the approval will lapse, and further admissions will require a fresh resource inspection by the Board.
The NBTE also stated that these newly approved programmes will be due for full accreditation when the first set of students reaches the fourth semester. Again, the onus is on the institution to invite the Board for this exercise to maintain its accreditation status.
Reacting to this institutional accomplishment, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Adewoyin Azeez Olakunle, expressed deep appreciation to key stakeholders who played pivotal roles in attaining the milestone.
He began by acknowledging the unwavering support of the Visitor to the Polytechnic, the Oluresi of Iresi land, Ọbá Sikiru Adeseun Ibiloye Odumiri II, for his royal counsel, moral support, and enduring commitment to the institution’s progress.
He also commended the leadership of the Board of Trustees (BOT) under Chief (Dr.) Oluwole Oludaisi Aina and the Governing Council chaired by Deputy Corps Marshal Kayode Olagunju (Rtd., PhD), for their visionary guidance and strategic oversight.
Dr. Adewoyin also extended his gratitude to the management team, academic and non-academic staff, students, and the wider Polytechnic community for their resilience, collective efforts, and faith in the institution’s mission.
“This accreditation is not merely a procedural formality, it is a powerful validation of our academic integrity, infrastructure development, and dedication to quality education,” Dr. Adewoyin remarked.
“It confirms that our programmes are relevant, our instructors are capable, and our graduates are being equipped to meet real-world challenges.”
He noted that the newly accredited courses reflect the Polytechnic’s strategic shift towards emerging fields in digital communication, financial technology, and cloud-based innovation, in response to global industry demands.
“Introducing advanced disciplines such as Software and Web Development, as well as Networking and Cloud Computing at the HND level, reflects our commitment to developing industry-ready graduates who are positioned for success in a digital economy,” he added.
The Rector emphasized that the institution would continue to expand its academic offerings while strengthening existing programmes to meet contemporary academic and technological demands.
“With these accreditations, we are better equipped to fulfill our vision of becoming a leading provider of technical, entrepreneurial, and innovation-driven education in Nigeria,” he affirmed.
