President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the construction of a new headquarters for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s electoral institutions and deepening democratic values.

At the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Tinubu described the planned headquarters as a “hub for innovation, planning, training, and transparency in electoral administration.” He emphasized the evolving nature of democracy and the need for institutions like INEC to grow in capacity and capability.

“Our democracy is dynamic. To sustain it, we must continually improve the institutions that support it,” Tinubu said. “This building represents more than infrastructure—it symbolizes our resolve to safeguard democracy.”

The President pledged comprehensive support for INEC, including infrastructure, legal frameworks, and resources, enabling the commission to fulfill its constitutional duties with excellence and integrity.

Tinubu praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for initiating the project, calling it “a vital step in protecting our democratic journey.” He commended Wike’s leadership and commitment to national development.

He also extended his appreciation to the FCT Administration and INEC staff for their dedication and resilience in the face of challenges.

Addressing contractors and stakeholders involved in the project, Tinubu delivered a pointed message: “You are not just building a structure—you are building national trust. Let your work reflect quality, speed, integrity, and transparency.”

In closing, the President reminded Nigerians that democracy is an ongoing journey, not a final destination. He called for collective efforts to strengthen institutions, protect liberties, and secure the country’s democratic future.
