President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his role in advancing the transformation of Abuja into a modern, world-class capital aligned with the administration’s development goals.

Tinubu’s commendation came during the commissioning of the first phase of Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way), which stretches from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III. Represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the President noted that the project’s inauguration coincides with his administration’s second anniversary.

Describing the road as a milestone in national development, Tinubu said, “This project is more than just infrastructure; it’s a testament to our vision in action.

It enhances connectivity and eases traffic in communities like Dape, Gwarinpa 1, Kado, Karsana, Idu, and Mbora.”

He expressed appreciation to Wike, FCT residents, and all stakeholders for their contributions, emphasizing the road’s alignment with his Renewed Hope Agenda and commitment to modern urban infrastructure.

In his remarks, Minister Wike acknowledged the temporary disruptions caused by the construction and called for continued patience. He disclosed that the contract was approved in September 2024, with construction beginning shortly afterward.

The project, being executed in two phases by Julius Berger, is scheduled for full completion by the end of 2025. Wike thanked affected communities for their cooperation and confirmed that compensation was duly provided.

Looking ahead, the minister announced plans to extend the road to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, with consultations and compensation efforts currently underway.

Also speaking at the event, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, described the road as a major eight-lane corridor connecting key districts from the Central Business District through Wuse, Utako, and Jabi to Phase III areas including Dape and Gwarinpa.

He added that while the commissioned section covers Phase III, future expansion will extend into Phase IV of the city.
