The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued a certificate of return to the son of the minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzau as the authentic House of Representative member-elect for Sumaila/Takai federal constituency.
The commission also withdraws the certificate of return issued to former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Kawu Sumaila.
A report by Daily Trust, Mohammed Shamsudeen Dambazzau has approached court that he is the authentic winner of the All Progressive Congress primaries in the constituency and that Sumaila never participated in the said primary.
On Thursday, April 18, a Federal High Court in Kano disqualified Sumaila as the duly elected member of the House of Representatives on the platform of the APC in the February 23, 2019, general elections.
The court also ordered INEC to recognise Dambazau as the duly elected member representing Sumaila/Takai federal constituency.
Issuing the certificate of return to Dambazau on Monday, May 13, INEC national commissioner, Amina Zakari, said the issuance of the certificate was on the order of the court.
