The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Mr. Sunday Bisi, has reaffirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains firmly committed to the PDP and is not involved in any opposition coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
This clarification comes in the wake of the recent unveiling of a new political alliance spearheaded by Atiku, which has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the stated aim of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing reporters in Osogbo on Wednesday, Bisi firmly distanced the Osun chapter of the PDP and Governor Adeleke from the newly announced coalition. “We remain in the PDP. Governor Ademola Adeleke is in the PDP. We are not going anywhere. I can assure you, Osun PDP is intact,” he declared.
While acknowledging that political alliances are legitimate tools in a democracy, Bisi defended the right of Atiku and others to form such a coalition. He cited the example of the APC’s formation through a merger in 2013, which led to its victory in the 2015 general elections. “There’s nothing wrong with opposition figures coming together to challenge a ruling party. This is democracy,” he said.
However, Bisi criticized Atiku Abubakar over recent remarks in which the former Vice President reportedly described the PDP as a weakened platform incapable of winning future elections. He dismissed Atiku’s assessment as both inaccurate and ironic, considering the former Vice President’s frequent party switches over the years.
“I do not agree with Atiku Abubakar’s claim that the PDP is weak. This is not the first time he has left the party, and PDP has gone on to win elections without him,” Bisi asserted.
The Osun PDP chairman emphasized that the party remains strong and united in the state, and that Governor Adeleke is focused on delivering good governance under the PDP banner.
