A tragic incident occurred in Onitasin, Imobi, within the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, where a farmer identified as Musa Kalamu was killed by a herd of wandering elephants reportedly straying from a government forest reserve.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, confirmed the incident to journalists on Tuesday, stating, “Yes, we are aware, and we are already on our way to the community.”

Similarly, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed the fatal encounter via a WhatsApp message, saying, “The DPO Ogbere received a report from the Itasin community on 28/07/2025 at about 4:20 p.m. that elephants had escaped from the government reserve and attacked one Musa Kalamu, who died en route to the hospital. Officers from the Ogun State Forestry Department have been notified to manage the situation, and calm has been restored in the area.”

A disturbing viral video surfaced on Tuesday showing the victim’s lifeless body, with visible injuries reportedly caused by the elephants.

In the background of the video, some local residents could be heard lamenting, “This is Kala. He was attacked by the elephants at Onitasin. You can see the marks and injuries on his body, with parts of his intestine out. The government must help us. The elephant menace is becoming unbearable in our community.”
