Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a party crowded with overly eager presidential hopefuls, urging them to slow down and be more strategic in their approach to the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday, Lamido, who attended the recent unveiling of the coalition-backed ADC in July, reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating he could never abandon a major political platform for a fledgling one.

While acknowledging the enthusiasm within the ADC, Lamido cautioned that rushing into the 2027 race without a well-thought-out plan could be counterproductive. He encouraged aspirants to take their time and focus on building connections quietly and strategically, rather than making hasty declarations.

“There’s too much rushing going on. Too many sprinters. They need to slow down and reflect deeply on the issues at hand if they truly want to dislodge this cancer called the APC,” Lamido said.

His remarks come amid growing political activity within the ADC. Barely a day after the party’s launch, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi declared his presidential ambition. Meanwhile, although former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has yet to make an official statement, speculations suggest he may also join the race.

The political conversation has also been fueled by Labour Party’s Peter Obi, who recently stated he would serve only one term if elected president — a comment that has further stirred debate over the shape of the 2027 contest.

Lamido’s advice to the ADC aspirants was clear: focus less on early declarations and more on building a formidable strategy to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) come 2027.
