The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Folajinmi Oyekunle, has emerged winner of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election conducted on Saturday across 12 wards in the area.

The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare of the University of Ibadan, announced the result at the collation centre in Ikolaba High School, Ibadan.

According to him, Oyekunle secured 18,404 votes, defeating his closest rival, Adewale “Murphy” Olatunji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 8,312 votes. Other candidates trailed far behind, with Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polling 88 votes, Olabisi Olajumoke of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) recording 40 votes, and Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) finishing with 18 votes.

In his official declaration, Prof. Oluwadare stated: “I, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare, hereby certify that Folajinmi Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party, having met all legal requirements, is duly declared winner of the 2025 Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election held on 16th August, 2024.”

The victory paves the way for Oyekunle to replace the late lawmaker, Musiliu Akinremi, fondly called Jagaban, whose death created the vacant seat.

This triumph is being celebrated as a landmark achievement for the PDP, as it reclaims the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat for the first time since 2011.
