The nominated 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has assured that his coronation will take place soon, following his return to his ancestral home in Ibadan.

Ladoja made the disclosure on Monday while addressing journalists at his private residence on Ondo Street, Ibadan. Earlier in the day, he had visited his family compound at Isale-Osi in Ibadan South East Local Government Area, where special prayers were offered for him. He also used the opportunity to caution miscreants disturbing the peace of Ibadan communities to desist or vacate the city entirely.

The visit marked his first public appearance since the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors on July 7, 2025.

Speaking on the transition, Ladoja expressed sadness at Oba Olakulehin’s passing, noting that he had hoped the late monarch would reign for several more years. “When I heard of his death, I was deeply pained because I felt I was not yet ready for kingship. But we thank God for sparing our lives. This journey began for me on October 1, 1993, and today, by God’s grace, it is nearing fulfillment,” he said.

The Olubadan-elect recalled the support of notable figures, including the late Chief MKO Abiola, at the beginning of his traditional journey, while offering prayers for departed friends and associates.

He further appreciated the Olubadan-In-Council for nominating and approving him for the throne, stressing that without their endorsement, his ascension would not have been possible. “Very soon, the government will announce the coronation date now that I am back. We will continue engagements with key stakeholders, including the Oluwo, Araba, and Governor Seyi Makinde. I pray that peace, prosperity, and development will reign in Ibadanland,” he added.

At Isale-Osi, Ladoja strongly warned troublemakers in areas such as Born-Photo, Asaka, and Foko to desist from criminal activities or leave Ibadan. He emphasized that peace and stability were necessary for the city’s progress and vowed not to condone thuggery or social vices.

The former governor, accompanied by his wives, rode in a motorcade from Isale-Osi through Oja-Oba, Beere, Oje, and Gate before arriving at his Bodija residence, where a large crowd gathered to welcome him.
