Villarreal have broken their transfer record with the signing of Portuguese defender Renato Veiga from Chelsea in a deal valued at €29.5 million, including add-ons.

The 21-year-old has penned a seven-year contract that will keep him at the Spanish club until 2032, underscoring Villarreal’s long-term plans for him.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move on Friday, revealing that the deal includes a guaranteed fee of €24.5m plus €5m in performance-related bonuses. “Renato Veiga joins Villarreal in a €29.5m package, add-ons included, with a sell-on clause. Record signing for the club, completed by his agent Nelson Veiga of MondoVictory and brokered by Ali Barat from Epic Sports,” Romano wrote on X.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have secured a sell-on clause, ensuring they will profit from any future transfer involving the player.

The signing marks a significant investment for Villarreal, who regard Veiga as a central figure in their long-term project. Highly rated for his versatility and composure, the youngster is expected to bolster the club’s defence while also offering options in midfield when required.
