The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to correct their personal details and replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Bauchi State, Umar Ibrahim, said the exercise is part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the CVR will cover fresh voter registration, corrections of details such as names, dates of birth, gender, or addresses, replacement of lost or defaced PVCs, transfer of voter registration across wards, local governments, or states, as well as the collection of unclaimed PVCs from the 2022 registration exercise.
Ibrahim explained that the online pre-registration, which began on August 18, 2025, will run alongside physical registration scheduled to commence on August 25, 2025, at designated centres across Bauchi State. Both processes will continue until August 30, 2026.
He noted that to qualify, applicants must be Nigerian citizens, at least 18 years old, and physically present for biometric capture. “The online portal, cvr.inecnigeria.org, is open 24 hours daily, while physical registration will take place at the INEC State Office in Bauchi and all 20 INEC local government offices between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays,” he said.
The REC added that INEC will display the Preliminary Register of Voters quarterly for public scrutiny, to allow for corrections, claims, and objections before the final voters’ list is compiled.
Ibrahim further warned against multiple or underage registration, collection of PVCs by proxy, or obstructing officials, stressing that such offences attract severe penalties under the Electoral Act 2022.
He urged all eligible voters in Bauchi to seize the opportunity, register, update their records, and collect their PVCs. “INEC is fully committed to delivering a free, fair, transparent, and inclusive voter registration process,” he assured.
