Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), with support from the Air Component, have eliminated nine Boko Haram fighters, among them two top commanders, during operations in Borno State.

A reliable military source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the operations, carried out between August 21 and 22, foiled terrorists’ planned attacks in Bita and Wulgo.

The slain commanders were named as Abu Nazir, Munzir of Juye, and Abu Fatima, Munzir of Koloram.

“They were neutralised during a fierce gun battle at the Wulgo axis,” the source said.

Troops also recovered AK-47 rifles, large quantities of ammunition, and six motorcycles used by the insurgents.

The military high command lauded the soldiers for the successful mission and encouraged them to maintain the momentum in the ongoing counter-insurgency war despite existing challenges.
