Residents of Agunbiade Parakoyi Street, Sawmill area of Ilorin, Kwara State, were thrown into shock on Tuesday after discovering a lifeless body in their neighborhood.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that landlords and residents gathered at the scene, puzzled over the identity of the deceased.
Alhaji Abdulwahab Bello-Opeloyeru, Chairman of Ifesowapo Community and head of local security, said the body has yet to be identified.
According to him, residents heard a scream around 3:39 a.m. but no one stepped out due to security concerns. He explained that the corpse was later spotted by residents heading out for early morning prayers.
Bello-Opeloyeru alleged that the deceased may have been returning from a nearby hotel at the time of the incident. He recalled that the community had only met on Monday to oppose the growing presence of hotels and alcoholic joints in the area, warning that such establishments could invite trouble.
Police officers from the ‘B’ Division, Surulere Area Command, later arrived and evacuated the body.
Attempts to reach the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Ejire Adetoun, were unsuccessful as calls to her phone went unanswered.
