A five-man panel of the Supreme Court of Nigeria has sacked Senator representing Niger East, David Umaru and replaced him with Mohammed Sani Musa.

The court held that Umaru did not win the primaries of the All Progressives Congress for the Niger East Senatorial District of Niger State.

The five-man panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, took the delivered the ruling on Friday.

The apex court ordered the recognition of Mohammed Sani Musa as the authentic winner of the last election for the Niger-East Senatorial District.

Supreme Court by the judgment, set aside the April 8, 2019 judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, which declared Senator David Umaru the valid candidate of the APC.

A five-man panel in a unanimous judgment upheld arguments by Musa’s legal team, led by Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) that he won the primary of the APC for the election and was the actual candidate for the election.

Meanwhile, the ruling means that the apex court affirms the February 7, 2019 judgment by Justice Folashade Giwa-Ogunbanjo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which declared Musa the validly nominated candidate of the APC for the election.
