Youths in Osun State have again called on the Commissioner for Youth Affairs in the state, Moshood Olagunju and the Ministry in general to rise beyond rhetorics and be more active in addressing multitude of issues relating to the development of Youth.

The youth, under the aegis of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, made this call during the recently concluded conference held to mark the 2025 International Youth Day.

According to the communique of the event obtained by InsightMedia in Osogbo, the conference described the activities of the ministry as not preparing young populations for modern challenges.

“The gathering strongly emphasized that the Ministry of Youth carries a sacred responsibility to drive policies and programs focused on empowering young people, particularly in technology and digital innovation,” the communique read in part.

“It was unanimously acknowledged that the Ministry has not done enough in this critical sector. Youth-focused, technology-driven programs have been scarce, and most existing initiatives do not directly prepare young people for the demands of the modern world.”

Proffering recommendation to the Youths in Osun State have again called on the Commissioner for Youth Affairs in the state, Moshood Olagunju and the Ministry in general to be more active in addressing multitude of issues relating to the development of Youth.

The youth, under the aegis of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, made this call during the recently concluded conference held to mark the 2025 International Youth Day.

The conference called on the Olagunju-led Ministry to immediately create youth policies that address the modern challenges and focus on youth empowerment.

The recommendation by the conference include creation and popularizing policies that focus on youth empowerment, establishment of functional youth innovation and technology hubs across Osun and design of clear and high-impact programs that connect youth with both local and international opportunities.”

The conference also urhed the Commissioner to stop solo work and partner with private and global organizations to support startups and young innovators.

“The conference further resolved that the Ministry of Youth must stop being passive and instead become the central driver of youth empowerment. It must work closely with the NYCN Osun State Chapter — the only recognized umbrella body for all youth groups in the state — to drive the current administration’s youth agenda and lead the charge in realizing the dreams of young people.”

Participants, most notably, panelists at the conference hammer0ed on partnership and adoption of digital skills to drive youth policies and development.

The conference unanimously demanded the urgent provision of a befitting Youth House by the government, to serve as a hub for ideas, engagements, and Council programs. In the same spirit, the gathering requested a mobility bus to ease the operations and logistics of the Council. These were identified as necessary facilities for effective youth coordination and delivery of grassroots-focused programs across Osun State.
