The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin, the federal lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Constituency, over alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of party dues.
The announcement was made on Saturday during a press conference in Kano by the NNPP State Chairman, Alhaji Hashim Dungurawa.
Dungurawa accused Jibrin of persistently undermining the party and aligning with political opponents of NNPP’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“He has consistently attacked the party and its leadership in the media while openly siding with opposition figures,” Dungurawa stated.
“Rather than engage constructively, he chose to work against the party. He brings no value to our platform.”
Dungurawa also disclosed that the party would initiate legal proceedings to recover outstanding dues from Jibrin.
“Our party’s constitution mandates financial obligations from members. He has failed to comply, and we will pursue court action to recover the dues,” he added.
Jibrin’s expulsion comes amid growing speculation that he may be planning a return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party he left in 2022.
Dungurawa, however, downplayed any potential impact of Jibrin’s departure on NNPP’s strength in Kano.
“If he was politically relevant, he would’ve retained his seat under the APC. He only returned to the House after joining NNPP through the Kwankwasiyya platform,” he said.
Jibrin, who previously served as Director-General of the Bola Tinubu Support Groups Management Council, defected to NNPP in 2022 and secured his current seat with the backing of the Kwankwasiyya movement.
His exit, coupled with internal tensions, could signal shifting political dynamics in Kano as parties gear up for the 2027 general elections.
