Former Rivers State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tonye Cole, has dismissed speculations that he may join former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Cole made his position known on Tuesday during an interview on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television. He reiterated his commitment to the APC and his determination to contest the governorship seat of Rivers State again in 2027.

Having lost in his previous attempts in 2019 and 2023, Cole described his renewed bid as a “third time lucky” effort, underscoring his resolve to eventually lead the state.

Speaking about his political ties with Amaechi, the APC chieftain acknowledged the former governor’s role in bringing him into politics. However, he noted that while Amaechi has shifted his focus towards national ambitions, his own priority remains firmly on Rivers State.

“I remain in the APC. I have no plans to follow Amaechi to the ADC,” Cole stated, adding that his sights are set on becoming the governor of Rivers despite past setbacks.
