Nigerian popular Afrobeats singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, has declared that he has no plans to retire from music.

The 39-year-old artist made the statement while addressing critics who accused him of chasing clout on social media. According to him, he would rather be regarded as an “up-and-coming artist” than give up on his craft.

Taking to his X handle, Terry G wrote: “I fully embrace being seen as an upcoming artist. You only become a legend when you retire and I’m never retiring. So if you catch me chasing clout, let me be.”

Terry G rose to fame in the 2010s with his distinctive street-hop sound, which produced popular hits such as Free Madness, Sangalo, Akpako Master, and Run Mad. Known for his eccentric style and energetic performances, he became one of the pioneers of a raw, ghetto-inspired music culture that influenced a generation of Nigerian artists.

The singer, who has been relatively quiet in recent years, is now working on a comeback. His latest effort is a collaboration with Victony on a new single titled Tanko, which he hopes will reconnect him with old fans and introduce his music to a new audience.
