ARISE News anchor Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was tragically killed during an armed robbery in Abuja on September 29, will be buried on October 18 in her hometown of Agulu, Anambra State.
Her life will be honoured through a series of memorial events in Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Anambra, bringing together colleagues, friends, and family to celebrate the legacy of the 29-year-old journalist, lawyer, and model.
Maduagwu and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, were fatally attacked in her home in the Katampe area during a violent break-in that has shocked the media industry and the nation.
In connection to the crime, the FCT Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 12 suspects, all reportedly from Kaduna and Katsina States.
According to police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, the gang admitted to sourcing their weapons—including a locally made AK-47 and other firearms—from an arms dealer operating across the Nigeria–Niger border.
The arrests were made following a targeted investigation led by DCP Aliyu Abubakar and ACP Victor Godfrey, under the directive of Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale.
Maduagwu’s death has drawn national mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the journalism and legal communities. Her voice, brilliance, and passion will be remembered by all who knew her.
