Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has broken her silence on her well-publicized fallout with fellow singer Seyi Shay, shedding light on the origins of their rift and addressing years-old allegations.
Speaking in a recent episode of Off Air with Gbemi and Toolz, published on Saturday, the Somebody’s Son crooner revealed that their disagreement dates back to a diss track and accusations that she attempted to hinder other female artistes’ careers.
Tiwa firmly denied ever trying to sabotage anyone, saying she has consistently championed women in the industry.
“If you do something to me, I will let you know. I don’t have to do it online. I’m not going to pretend we’re cool in a salon after you’ve dropped a diss track,” she said.
According to Tiwa, she was blindsided by the diss and particularly hurt by claims that she had tried to “block bags” or hinder opportunities for other artistes, including Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani.
“That was painful, and I didn’t know where it was coming from. Till today, maybe I need to have a conversation with Shay.
I heard they thought I blocked their bag. How? If someone said I did, name them so I can address it.
I would never do that. I’m very pro-women,” she said.
Tiwa also pointed out an incident where Seyi Shay was chosen over her for a major endorsement deal, contradicting the claim that she blocked opportunities for others.
“When I was pregnant with my son, Jamil, I lost a Pepsi campaign — the Longer Throat one.
Shay got that deal. She was a brand ambassador; I wasn’t.
I couldn’t snap back in time after pregnancy, so I was taken off.
I wasn’t even mad. I just hit the gym and worked on myself,” she explained.
The pair’s feud famously boiled over in a Lagos salon in 2021, with a heated confrontation that quickly went viral on social media. Seyi Shay later claimed she had tried to make peace, but Tiwa’s latest comments suggest deeper tensions and industry-related misunderstandings may have fueled the drama.
Their strained relationship reportedly began in 2017, after Seyi Shay appeared to take shots at Tiwa in her verse during the viral Fvck You Challenge by Kizz Daniel — a move that intensified their rivalry.
