Super Eagles Head Coach, Eric Chelle, has assured Nigerians that the team remains focused and determined to secure victory in tomorrow’s crucial World Cup qualifier against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Monday, Chelle emphasized the importance of the fixture, describing it as a must-win encounter for the Nigerian side.

According to him, despite initial travel challenges faced by the squad, the players are in high spirits and fully aware of the task ahead.

“We have to win this game. My mind is set on getting the three points and nothing else. We want to qualify for the World Cup. I’m very happy, very excited, though sometimes a little nervous,” Chelle said.

The Super Eagles currently sit third in Group C with 14 points, while Benin Republic lead with 17 points and South Africa trail closely with 15 points.

Team captain William Troost-Ekong also expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness, noting that the players are motivated to make history.

“There are players here who want to make names for themselves and leave a lasting legacy. We are fully prepared to give our best and win,” Ekong stated, while acknowledging that “tomorrow may not be 100 per cent in our hands, but we’ll fight to the end.”

Meanwhile, Benin Republic’s coach, Gernot Rohr, has expressed confidence that his team will emerge victorious and secure a place in the 2026 World Cup. Rohr said his players are in high spirits and ready to capitalize on their strong position in the group.
