President Bola Tinubu has expressed grief over the passing of Major General Abdullahi Mohammed (rtd.), a former Chief of Staff to ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, describing him as a disciplined, loyal, and patriotic Nigerian who dedicated his life to national service.
General Mohammed, a native of Ilorin, Kwara State, reportedly passed away around 1 a.m. on Wednesday in Abuja at the age of 86.
In a condolence statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the President praised the late general’s remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s governance and security architecture.
*“General Mohammed left indelible marks on the nation’s security architecture, particularly in the establishment of the National Security Organisation, the precursor to the State Security Services, the National Intelligence Agency, and the Defence Intelligence Agency.
“He was also Governor of the defunct Benue-Plateau State between 1975 and 1976,”* the statement read.
Tinubu commended Mohammed’s sense of duty, humility, and integrity, noting that his leadership at the State House left a legacy of excellence and order.
*“He was a man of exemplary character, who combined the precision of a soldier with the prudence of a statesman.
“His years in the State House were marked by humility, efficiency, and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project,”* the statement added.
The President extended his condolences to Mohammed’s family, the people and government of Kwara State, and the Nigerian Armed Forces, while praying for the peaceful repose of the late general’s soul.
