Protesters, including 35 chapter chairmen and secretaries, blocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) state office in Calabar on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of State Chairman Alphonsus Eba.

The demonstrators carried placards with slogans such as “Okadigbo must go,” “The party can’t be starving while you are living large,” and “APC Cross River State deserves fresh air.”

They also denied access in and out of the party secretariat. As of press time, no member of the APC State Working Committee had addressed the protesters.

The protest follows a communique issued on Tuesday by 18 chapter chairmen and 17 secretaries, represented by High Chief Kelvin Njong, calling for Eba’s immediate resignation.

The group cited a loss of trust, withheld three-month stipends, unequal fund allocations, misappropriation of election proceeds, and alleged incitement as reasons for their action.

Eba, however, denied the allegations, explaining that salaries are paid directly to ward executives and that chairmen’s pay is withheld pending an internal probe.
