United Nigeria Airlines handed popular social media personalities Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, and entertainer Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, also known as Mr Jollof, to airport security on Monday following a heated dispute while boarding a scheduled Asaba–Lagos flight.
The altercation prompted the airline’s crew to step in and remove them from the flight to ensure the safety and order of other passengers.
The airline detailed the incident in a signed statement on its official X account, explaining how the crew managed the situation.
According to the statement, “United Nigeria Airlines confirms that an altercation occurred between two passengers, identified as Martins Vincent Otse ‘VeryDarkman’ and Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi ‘Mr. Jollof’, during the boarding of Flight UN0523 at Asaba International Airport on the morning of 17 November 2025.”
The airline said its staff acted swiftly and professionally following global aviation standards.
“In full compliance with global aviation safety protocols, our crew responded immediately and professionally to de-escalate the situation. Both passengers were deboarded without delay to ensure the safety, comfort, and security of all other passengers and crew members. They were subsequently handed over to airport security for further investigation.”
Reiterating its zero-tolerance safety policy, the carrier added, “United Nigeria Airlines places the highest priority on safety and maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any conduct that threatens the security or well-being of passengers or crew. After all standard procedures were completed, the flight departed safely while the passengers involved in the altercation were still with the authorities.”
The airline further assured passengers of its continued dedication to operational excellence.
“We remain firmly committed to providing a safe, respectful, and secure travel experience across our network.”
The altercation between VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof at Asaba International Airport drew widespread public attention. While the exact cause remains unclear, the incident follows several weeks of online tension between the two internet personalities, who have been exchanging criticisms and responding to each other’s social commentary.
Their exchanges have attracted a large following, with fans from both sides engaging in heated debates on social media platforms.
Attempts to reach the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority for comment were unsuccessful as of press time, with calls and messages going unanswered.
