The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has married Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
The development was made public on Friday through a celebratory Facebook post by a member of the Dajoh family, Abraham Double-D Dajoh, who confirmed the union and shared photographs of the couple.
According to the post, Queen Zaynab was formally welcomed into the Dajoh family home in Mbakor, Benue State, in December, marking her official entry into the family.
Describing the marriage as “beautiful” and “uncommon,” the Dajoh family expressed delight over the union, noting that it signified a new chapter in the life of the former Benue State governor.
“We, the entire Dajoh family, happily join our daddy, uncle and brother, His Excellency, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume Jugu Dajoh, in welcoming his new and uncommon wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, into the Dajoh family,” the statement read.
The family also thanked Akume’s supporters and political associates for their continued loyalty, urging them to sustain their support as he embarks on this new phase of his personal life.
Queen Zaynab, formerly known as Olori Wuraola, was married to the Ooni of Ife for about 17 months before the union ended in 2017. She was received into her new home with cultural rites, reflecting the traditions of Mbakor and the wider Benue community.
Emphasising their heritage, the family welcomed her to Benue State, popularly known as the Food Basket of the Nation, and to Mbakor, described as a historic seat of leadership in Tiv land.
The announcement, which coincided with the festive season, also carried goodwill messages to Nigerians, wishing them a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
When contacted, Akume’s spokesman, Yomi Odunuga, confirmed the marriage but clarified that it did not take place recently, contrary to widespread reports.
“I can confirm the marriage. However, contrary to the rumour that the marriage was consummated on December 24 in Gboko, the union is actually over a year old,” Odunuga said.
Akume, a former governor of Benue State, currently serves in President Bola Tinubu’s administration. News of his marriage to Queen Zaynab, a humanitarian and former royal, has continued to generate reactions across Nigeria’s political and social circles.
