Following the suspension of dealings with it by the Osun State Government, the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), in the State, has called for calm among its members and voluntary youth organizations, stating that the activities of the council will still continue.
InsightLinks recalled that the government on Sunday announced that it would henceforth suspend any dealings with the youth organization following the controversy over rice distribution and the alleged kickbacks against the Commissioner for Youth, Moshood Olagunju.
Reacting to the development, the Public Relations Officer of the NYCN, Hassan Rafiu said the council welcome the investigation into the allegations against the council and the Ministry of Youth Affairs, and assured that NYCN leadership will cooperate with the panel.
“The Council also acknowledges the Osun State Government’s decision to constitute an investigatory committee to review the issues surrounding the recent developments between the NYCN Osun State Chapter and the Ministry of Youth. We welcome this step in good faith and see it as a constructive mechanism aimed at restoring clarity, order, and mutual understanding within the youth administration framework of the state.
“The NYCN Osun State leadership assures the government, stakeholders, and the general public of its full readiness to cooperate with the investigatory committee by providing all relevant information required to ensure a fair, objective, and balanced process.”
Rafiu also stated that the NYCN remains apolitical and non-partisan and will continue to operate while the investigation is going on.
“We wish to clearly state that the National Youth Council of Nigeria remains a non-political and non-partisan organization. The Council is not aligned with any political party or opposition group, and our engagements are guided strictly by the interest of youth development, representation, and institutional integrity.
“In view of the ongoing investigation, we strongly urge all Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs), local government chapters, and affiliated youth bodies across Osun State to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while awaiting the outcome of the committee’s findings and decisions.
“We also emphasize that the temporary suspension of government dealings with the Council does not in any way invalidate the NYCN Osun State Chapter or halt its internal operations. The Council will continue its day-to-day activities, coordination, youth engagement, and advocacy across the state in line with its constitutional mandate.”
