Emerging media and communications firm, Signum Communications Limited, has announced Sunday, March 29, 2026, as the date for the inaugural edition of the Signum Media Awards, an event designed to recognise excellence in journalism and broadcasting while celebrating outstanding media personalities across Osun State.

The maiden awards ceremony will feature the presentation of Awards of Excellence to journalists and broadcasters working in the print, digital and electronic media sectors. Special emphasis will be placed on exceptional investigative reports, compelling documentaries, socially relevant programmes and other impactful media works.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Chief Communications Officer of Signum Communications Limited, Adedayo Oderinu, said the initiative was borne out of the need to acknowledge media practitioners who continue to shape society through information, investigation, education and solution-driven reporting.

According to Oderinu, the media industry places enormous demands on practitioners, including their time, energy and intellectual resources, yet adequate recognition and motivation remain lacking.

“It is unfortunate that many existing awards require prospective recipients to lobby or seek votes, when the quality of their work should be sufficient for recognition,” he said.

He explained that the Signum Media Awards would provide a credible platform that celebrates hardworking journalists and broadcasters without subjecting them to the pressure of lobbying or vote-buying.

“Our goal is to identify outstanding media professionals through an inclusive and transparent process, celebrate them on a prominent stage and motivate them with financial rewards for their dedication and passion,” he added.

On the nomination and selection process, Oderinu disclosed that recognised media organisations across the state would be contacted to participate in shortlisting prospective awardees. A jury comprising experienced practitioners from various sectors of the media industry in Osun State will review the shortlist, with final winners emerging through an aggregate assessment system.

He further noted that awardees would not be required to pay or lobby to be recognised, stressing that winners would instead receive cash prizes in appreciation of their commitment to the profession. He added that the public would be involved in the planning process to enhance transparency.

The Signum Media Awards aims to honour excellence in journalism, broadcasting, digital media and storytelling, while fostering unity among leading stakeholders in Osun State’s media landscape.
